Making peacebuilding inclusive in... |
It has been over 60 years since the 1948 Al-Nakba war. This led to the creation of the Israeli state and was followed by the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory in 1967.
The conflict continues today and is an impediment to lasting peace in the region. A pre-requisite from the Palestinian side for peace talks to continue is the freezing of the current construction of new Israeli settlements on Palestinian territory.
The UN Security Council Resolution that was to condemn Israel’s annexation of Palestinian Territories was vetoed by the USA in February 2011. This was seen as a significant drawback in the peace process by Palestinians and is felt to be jeopardizing the path towards a ‘just’ peace.
Palestinian people are losing faith in the peace process and the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian leadership.
