The seconf phase of the "Strengthening local resilience for sustainable peace in devolved Kenya" programme aims to reduce violence and increase local conflict management capacities in Mandera, Wajir, Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Samburu, and Laikipa counties. Focusing on the eight most conflict affected counties in Kenya, the programme builds on the achievements of the previous phase and aims to create conducive conditions for communities and the government to sustain peace without the support of external actors. The programme will focus on strengthening existing peace infrastructures, addressing long-standing historical grievances, and decreasing communities’ vulnerability to climate change and climate variability. In Laikipia, where prior sustained peacebuilding efforts are lacking, the initiative will seek to create a common narrative on the drivers of conflict and factors supporting resilience, whilst establishing local peace infrastructures to prevent and manage conflicts.
