Governance

The Governing Board is Interpeace’s highest decision-making body and the legal authority responsible for the organisation. The Board is made up of individuals from the government, international, and business sectors, with one seat reserved for our host government, Switzerland, and one seat reserved for the designated representative of the United Nations Secretary-General.

Amre Moussa

Chairperson
Egypt
Amre Moussa is a distinguished diplomat, and served as Egypt's Ambassador to India, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Minister of Foreign Affairs (1991–2001), and Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (2001–2011). Following Egypt's 2011 revolution, he ran for president and chaired the committee that drafted Egypt's 2014 Constitution. He continues to contribute to international peace and diplomacy, and has received numerous national and international honours for his contributions.

Matthias Stiefel

Matthias Stiefel is a Swiss political scientist and the Founder and former President of Interpeace, with 40 years of operational experience across five continents. He has held senior executive positions within the United Nations, non-governmental organisations, and academia, contributing to efforts in international peacebuilding, governance, and conflict transformation.

Kate Gilmore

Australia
Kate Gilmore is a distinguished human rights advocate and former United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights. Prior to joining the Office of the High Commissioner, she served as Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director for Programmes at the United Nations Population Fund. She previously held senior leadership positions at Amnesty International, including Executive Deputy Secretary-General and National Director of Amnesty International Australia.

Marc Secretan

Treasurer
Switzerland
Marc Secretan is a Swiss Certified Public Accountant and registered Audit Expert, currently serving as Audit Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He leads the Geneva office, PwC’s Family Business and Middle Market activities in French-speaking Switzerland, and the firm’s Non-for-Profit Practice across Switzerland.

Elhadj as Sy

Senegal
Elhadj As Sy is a distinguished humanitarian leader and former Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). With decades of experience in the humanitarian and development sectors, he has held senior positions with UNICEF, UNAIDS, UNDP, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the Environment and Development Action in the Third World (Enda Tiers Monde).

Miriam Coronel Ferrer

Philippines
Miriam Coronel Ferrer is a distinguished peacebuilder and political scientist, co-founder of the Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators, and emerita professor at the University of the Philippines. She chaired the Philippine government panel that negotiated and signed the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro in 2014 and has served as a member of the UN Standby Team of Mediation Experts. She continues to advance women and youth inclusion in peace processes and has authored numerous works on politics, conflict, and peacebuilding.

Hind Kabawat

Syria/Canada
Hind Kabawat is Syria’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labour. Previously, she was Adjunct Professor and Director of Interfaith, Peacebuilding, and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University, founded the Tastakel Women Organization, served as Deputy Head of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Office in Geneva, and was a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation.

Staffan de Mistura

Italy/Sweden
Staffan de Mistura is a distinguished diplomat and former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Syria. He has served as Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Lebanon, as well as Personal Representative for Southern Lebanon and Director of the UN Information Centre in Rome. He has dedicated decades of service to international diplomacy, conflict resolution, and humanitarian efforts.

Khaled Khiari

Tunisia
Khaled Khiari is a distinguished diplomat and United Nations official, serving as Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. He has previously held senior positions within Tunisia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director General for Americas, Asia and Oceania, and Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and Geneva.

Amina Mohamed

Kenya
Amina Mohamed is a distinguished public servant and diplomat with a career spanning international affairs, governance, and sustainable development. She has served as Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Education, Science and Technology, and Sports, Culture and Heritage, as well as Permanent Secretary for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs. She has also served as Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UNEP, and as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative in Geneva.
