A part of Interpeace's funding is made up of unrestricted or lightly earmarked funding, critical for the organisation to address changing priorities and needs, whilst covering operating expenses. Unrestricted and lightly earmarked funding received from strategic partner governments and donors are allocated through regular dialogue and mutual agreements and enable rapid responses to volatile situations, support peacebuilding initiatives, advance systemic change, and address international peacebuilding trends, while enhancing organisational accountability and governance. Unrestricted funding is spent, returned, or used at year-end in accordance with partner instructions. In 2025, unrestricted funding represented 7% (USD 1.1 million) of Interpeace's annual income.
Furthermore, financial partners providing restricted funding generally allow a percentage of the grant to cover Internal Cost Recovery (ICR), covering essential governance, administration, and compliance expenses. Decisions regarding ICR requires the approval of the Governing Board. In 2025, the ICR generated from restricted funds represented 3% (USD 632,000) of Interpeace's annual income.
In accordance with its 2026-2030 Strategic Framework: Navigating Political and Civic Space - Peacebuilding in an Era of Heightened Instability, Interpeace assigned unrestricted funding in 2025 as follows:
