A social media campaign in support of Peace Day and Global Truce 2012 was carried out:

A  Thunderclap went out on Peace Day, a Twibbon could be added to social media profile pictures and we were asking what #PeaceMeans to everyone on Twitter et Facebook.

El Salvador: Foundation stone ceremony

In the Mejicanos community a foundation stone laying ceremony for the Peace Reference Center took place.

The Center will provide access to peacebuilding bibliography tools and applied methodologies for teachers, students and families in this violence-affected neighborhood of El Salvador.

Honduras: Public forum, street soccer and artistic events

A public forum was held on the ‘Culture of Peace’ and the relevance of the International Peace Day commemoration with national leaders, academia and think tanks.

A street soccer match took place involving the fans from the two national major league soccer teams which have long history of violence against each other.

Puntland: Film screening & discussion

Youth from seven conflicting clans were provided a unique opportunity and neutral space to engage in dialogue.

They were able to interact and share a common vision in relation to conflict and identify their role in bringing peace to their communities.

Timor-Leste: First stone of construction

Interpeace partner, CEPAD, celebrated Peace Day with a ceremony in Ermera district to mark the symbolic laying of the “first stone of construction” for the fourth Peace House in Timor-Leste.

Three Peace Houses in Baucau, Maliana and Aileu districts are already up and running.

Timor-Leste: SMS campaign

Interpeace Partner CEPAD, sent out a message of peace via SMS to all of those within the CEPAD family, encouraging everyone to pass the message on to their own contacts.

Based on CEPAD’s extensive network, it is estimated that the message reached about 600 citizens including parliamentarians, members of government and former and current Presidents.

Celebrations took place in Budaha, where Interpeace partner IRDP has a permanent Dialogue Club.

Discussions on peaceful cohabitation was co-organised with the National Unity Reconciliation Commission. A meeting was also held in Kigali, with members of secondary school debate clubs.

Burundi: A day free of violent crimes

Burundi: A day free of violent crimes

Peace Day was preceded by a week-long radio campaign calling for a day free of violent conflict and lobbying for a decrease in violence.

The campaign consisted of a drama show on the threats of routine violence which was broadcasted on five radio stations at peak listener times.

Palestine: Photo gallery

The Mustakbalna team set up a temporary photo exhibition in Gaza.

Forty photographs taken by Palestinian photographers and journalists were presented under the name ‘Palestine Through Your Eyes’ to promote civic peace and call for reconciliation.
