Unlocking the Potential of Northern Kenya through peace and trust building

As a catalyst for sustainable peace and economic transformation in Northern Kenya, the programme uses Peace-Positive Investment & Climate Resilience as an instrument for transformation. A feasibility study by the programme identified key investment opportunities in Northern Kenya, including climate-resilient livelihoods in pastoralist communities. The programme prioritises large-scale fodder production, adaptive technologies, water access, and infrastructure development. Initial efforts focus on training centres to build local capacity, paving the way for scalable climate adaptation strategies.

By fostering peace and trust, the program creates an enabling environment for private sector investment in green energy, water, irrigation, mining, oil exploration, and cross-border trade. This integration of economic opportunities with peacebuilding efforts positions Northern Kenya as a hub for sustainable development.

Building research linking illiteracy to conflict, the program piloted vocational training as a tool for transformation in 2023 by enrolling reformed warriors in plumbing and electrical engineering training. Success led to a partnership with the State Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (SD/TVET) and the Love Embraced Initiative, culminating in the ‘Skilling4Peace’ initiative. A 2024 baseline study informed its expansion, with the Kenyan government now considering its adoption as a national policy for conflict-prone pastoralists.
