Resilient Communities: Deepening healing and strengthening livelihoods and civic engagement for effective reintegration and social cohesion in Rwanda

Building on the achievements and impact of past work on societal healing, the programme promotes an integrated approach linking societal healing, collaborative livelihoods, civic engagement, transformative governance, and community mediation to strengthen community resilience. It addresses intergenerational trauma and genocide legacies, improves family communication and harmony, tackles economic hardship through financial literacy and entrepreneurship, and promotes inclusive governance through civic education and community dialogue. Furthermore, the programme features community-driven reintegration of prisoners as a core component, supporting reconciliation and trust-rebuilding.

The programme rests on the premise that when communities have access to trauma-informed healing services, collaborative livelihood tools, and inclusive civic platforms, relationships and intergenerational trust are strengthened, conflicts are resolved peacefully, and people gain dignified economic opportunities and actively participate in democratic processes.

The programme is funded by the Government of Denmark through the Danish International Development Agency and the Embassy of Denmark in Rwanda.
