Interpeace is dismayed to announce that Abdulnasir Mohamed Elmi, the Administration and Finance Assistant of our partner, the Puntland Development and Research Centre (PDRC), has been assassinated by two gunmen near his mosque in Garsoor quarter of Galkacyo yesterday evening.

Abdulnasir leaves behind his wife and a four month old daughter. The murder of our friend and colleague Abdulnasir is the latest in a series of killings targeting civil society and the media in Somalia. Merely twelve days ago, Abdi Farah 'INXA', the Galkacyo member of the Elections Monitoring Committee organized by civil society, was assassinated when leaving the mosque in Galkacyo.

We are deeply saddened by another senseless loss of a member of our family of peacebuilders and wish to express our deepest condolences to his family and to PDRC.
