This report examines the process through which the 2012 elections were held. It highlights challenges that faced major stakeholders, and reflects upon the Academy for Peace and Development’s (APD) sustained efforts to analyse these challenges and help devise mechanisms to overcome them. Finally, the report identifies a number of lessons that Somaliland must learn from these elections, not just for the sake of the democratization process but also for Somaliland’s long-term political health.
