Peace beyond borders at the London Peace Talks

The Peace Talks are travelling to London on December 11, 2018. Organized under the theme “Peace without Borders,” the London Peace Talks aim to encourage and promote collaboration and dialogue to generate common understandings and solutions in today’s times where uncertainty has become the new norm. Through personal stories, speakers will share personal experiences to inspire people and spark a discussion on how each of us can play a role in promoting peace that goes beyond borders.

Organized in partnership with Salesforce.org, the London Peace Talks will be held at Salesforce Tower. The following featured speakers will deliver inspiring eight-minute talks on how they are working to promote peace beyond borders:

  • Andria Zafirakou: Global Teacher Prize Winner 2018; Art & Textiles teacher at Alperton Community School, located in one of the poorest and most violent neighborhoods in the UK. Her multiple initiatives and focus on building relationships of trust with her students has placed Alperton in the top 1 to 5% of the country.
  • Ariane Inkesha: Peacebuilder and researcher working on social cohesion in Rwanda who focuses on conflict transformation, youth and participatory governance. She is currently the Great Lakes Policy and Programme Officer for Rwanda at Interpeace.
  • Bana Alabed: 9-year-old Aleppo siege survivor, peace activist and author who tweeted about the horrors of life under siege in Syria. Her first book Dear World: A Syrian Girl’s Story of War and Plea for Peace was released on October 2017.
  • Gail Gallie: Co-founder of Project Everyone, a non-for-profit agency that aims to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. Gail is an experienced marketing leader with over 20 years in the communications industry.
  • Judith Bird: Global Philanthropy Chair of Faithforce championing equality and tolerance among employees and within the communities where they work and live; Senior Corporate Counsel at Salesforce.org
  • Noëlla Coursaris: International model, philanthropist and activist; Founder of Malaika, a non-profit that empowers girls in the DRC through education and health programs. Noëlla’s work has been featured on CNN, the BBC, Vanity Fair and Vogue.
  • Yetnebersh Nigussie: Human rights lawyer and disability rights activist; 2017 Right Livelihood Award Laurate. Yetnebersh became blind at the age of five after a meningitis infection. She co-founded the Ethiopian Centre for Disability and Development, which promotes and facilitates disability inclusion in Ethiopian legal and policy framework and in society at large.

About the Peace Talks

The Peace Talks was co-founded by the United Nations Office in Geneva, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, and Interpeace with the support of the Swiss Government. The Peace Talks started in 2013 in Switzerland through the first-ever Geneva Peace Talks.

To date there have been 11 editions of Peace Talks in 6 countries, 124 speakers, over 6,800 in person attendees and more than 130 million impressions on the event hashtags. Previous Peace Talks are available at www.peacetalks.net.
