Global Policy Engagements
As part of its mandate to strengthen societies’ capacities to manage conflict peacefully and to support more effective international peacebuilding, Interpeace aims to bring the perspectives of local peacebuilders into global policy arenas. Through our advocacy and partnerships, we work to ensure that international peacebuilding frameworks reflect the priorities, challenges, and lived experiences of communities affected by conflict, ensuring that international strategies are informed by those most affected. Policy engagements should not be abstract, technical or detached from the lived experiences of the communities we seek to serve. This is important because peacebuilding must be rooted in the realities, aspirations, and agency of those most affected by conflict to be legitimate and sustainable.
Global policy processes play an important role in shaping how the international community understands, supports, and sustains peace, and how we can collectively respond to the challenges and opportunities that transcend national borders. These moments provide a rare opportunity to collectively assess what is working, what is falling short, and how the global peace architecture can evolve to address the realities of today’s complex and interconnected conflicts. In a political climate marked by growing fragmentation and eroding trust in institutions, reduced spaces for dialogues, and shrinking space for civil society, it is more important than ever to safeguard and strengthen inclusive, forward-looking multilateral approaches to peace.
As a peacebuilding organisation rooted in inclusive participation and meaningful partnerships, Interpeace works with civil society and international institutions to promote cross-horizontal learning and amplify local voices in global policy processes. We contribute to initiatives such as the 2025 Peacebuilding Architecture Review and the CSO–UN Dialogue on Peacebuilding, supporting efforts to institutionalise more consistent and impactful UN engagement with civil society.
