The Secretariat, headed by the Director-General, is responsible for the day-to-day activities and management of the organization. It is headquartered in Geneva with regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Guatemala City, Guatemala and offices in Brussels, Belgium and New York, US.
Interpeace believes in the importance of decision making power, and as such the members of its Strategic Management Team are located around the world, working alongside colleagues to reinforce local capacities and to provide strategic vision.

Scott was appointed as Director-General in 2005 by the then-Chairman (2000-2009) of the Interpeace Governing Council, 2008 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President Martti Ahtisaari. In recognition of his record of professional accomplishments, his commitment to society and his potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through his inspiring leadership, Scott was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2009. Each year the Forum recognizes "the 200 most distinguished young leaders below the age of 40 from around the world."
Interpeace’s work has also been personally highlighted by H.E. President Bill Clinton at the 2006 and 2007 Clinton Global Initiative meetings as an innovative approach to conflict prevention.
In 2010 Scott was nominated by the Governing Council, chaired by former President of Ghana, John A. Kufuor, for a second 5-year term as Director-General.
Scott began his career in the United Nations, first in disaster reduction and then in political affairs. Scott is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), The Chatham House (UK), the Steering Committee of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform. He is also a member of the Advisory Boards of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and the Center for the Democratic Control of the Armed Forces (DCAF). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Economics and Russian from Georgetown University. Scott is French and American.
Jerry McCann
Deputy Director-General, Operations
Jerry McCann is Deputy Director-General for Operations, and serves on the Interpeace Executive Group and Strategic Management Team. He is responsible for all Interpeace operations in the field.
With over 7 years of peacebuilding experience and 14 years overseas in developing nations, he oversees the planning and implementation of all the Interpeace programmes across Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe and the Middle East.
Prior to taking this position, Jerry was the Interpeace Regional Director for Eastern and Central Africa for six years. He originally joined the organization in 2004 as Operations Manager for the Somali programme, based out of Nairobi.
Jerry's path to a career in peacebuilding has been unconventional but provided him with the foundational skills needed to implement major peacebuilding programmes. A licensed structural engineer with a Masters from the University of California, Berkeley, he has engineered over 100 buildings in the earthquake-prone region of Southern California and was the Project Manager, overseeing the construction of a $60 million Medical Office complex in San Francisco, California. Jerry served three years in the US Peace Corps in Uganda teaching Civil Engineering in the mid-90's and from 2000 to 2004 was Director of Habitat for Humanity's programme in Kenya, an low-income housing INGO with national programmes in over 80 countries.
Jerry combines his strong management skills, his pragmatic approach and attention to detail with his hands-on field experience from the construction sector to support Interpeace's efforts to empower locally-driven, locally-owned peacebuilding teams around the world.
Renée Larivière is responsible for programme design, development, implementation and guidance to the national programme teams. Operating in the complex environments of fragiles societies she has extensive experience in working closely with the different stakeholders that have an interest in building sustainable peace.
Renée came to Interpeace in 2007 with field experience from Peru, Pakistan and Indonesia. While her focus has always been related to supporting fragile societies, her past work has been connected to conflicts relating to natural resources.
While in Peru, working for Grupo GEA, Renée was also Visiting Professor at the Post Graduate School of La Molina National University, Lima lecturing on how to prevent conflict around the access, use and management of natural resources. In Pakistan Renée's role was Programme Officer for LEAD International - an organization championing leadership for environment and development. Prior to her mission in Pakistan, Renée worked for the the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
Renée is Canadian and holds a Masters in Environmental Sciences from the University of Sherbrooke and a Bachelors degree from the University of Ottawa.
She oversees the work of the Office of the Director General which initiates, further develops and manages: organizational integration and coordination, external relations and fundraising strategies, outreach and communication strategies, management and governance structures, and special initiatives.
She is responsible for leading the organization’s external relations approach, the coordination of fundraising efforts and donor relationship management. She joined Interpeace in 2005 as Special Assistant to the Director-General and also served as Programme Officer for Interpeace’s work in Palestine.
Prior to joining Interpeace, she worked for various Canadian security sector and diplomatic institutions, conducting research for the Department of National Defence, developing training courses on peacebuilding for the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, and working abroad at the Canadian Embassy in France.
She holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs with a specialization in Conflict Analysis from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (Canada).
Mike Pejcic joined Interpeace in 2007, bringing with him 15 years of international relief and development experience. He has worked for various international NGOs in Africa and Europe as well as at organizational headquarters in the US, where he was responsible for global finance.
He holds a BBA degree in Accounting from Andrews University in Michigan and an MBA degree from University of Westminster in London. Mike's interest in peacebuilding were especially stimulated during the breakup of former Yugoslavia.
Graeme joined Interpeace in January 2011. He was a founder (1989) and Executive Director of the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR), in Johannesburg, South Africa, until April 2005. In 2005, he became the Director of Country Programs at the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), in New York City overseeing work in more than thirty countries and then Director of Thematic Programs working on Prosecutions, Reparations, Truth-Seeking, Security System Reform, Memorials, Gender, Peace & Justice. He is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University School of Law, offering a post-graduate seminar on Transitional Justice.
He has published widely in books and journals covering a wide range of issues. Graeme Simpson has a law degree (LLB) and a Masters degree in History from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Johan, a Swedish National, joined Interpeace in 2006. He has two and a half decades of field experience in the Horn of Africa with an emphasis on the Somali Region and the Great Lakes area, and over 15 years working in the peacebuilding arena.
Johan has lived in the Somali Region and has had various positions with international organizations, implementing a variety of peacebuilding and development initiatives, among them for UNICEF and the Life and Peace Institute where he was Regional Representative and Coordinator for the Horn of Africa Programme for more than a decade. In this capacity he supported peacebuilding initiatives from the local level to working with inter-governmental bodies including Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Operating in the complex environments of fragile societies such as Sudan, Somalia, Burundi and Rwanda, Johan’s past work has been connected not only to peacebuilding and reconciliation but also to public health care (Somalia). Having experienced living in the Somali Region both pre and post 1991, when the country experienced some of its most serious challenges, in 1994 Johan decided to re-channel his expertise towards peacebuilding work.
Prior to his recent appointment as Interpeace’s Regional Director for the Eastern and Central Africa region, Johan worked as Regional Advisor and Senior Programme officer for the Eastern and Central Africa programmes that include the Somali Region, Burundi and Rwanda.
Johan holds a Bachelor Degree in Public Health Care and has taken several university courses in development, international relations, conflict management and peacebuilding over the years.
Ana Glenda Tager has served as the Latin American Regional Director of Interpeace since 2005. Prior to her appointment as Regional Director, Ana Glenda worked with WSP International (Interpeace’s predecessor) as a Programme Officer. In this capacity Ana Glenda supported the development of the “Toward a Policy in Citizenship Security” (POLSEC) programme, the Guatemalan Network for Democratic Security, and “Strengthening the Capacities of Civil Society Society on Security Issues (FOSS) programme. She also helped to create a platform for dialogue between civil society and the military for FLACSO –Guatemala, WSP International (now Interpeace), IGEDEP and PNUD/UNOPS.
Ana Glenda has also supported the Nicaraguan Ministry of Defence and has worked as an Investigator for FLACSO-Guatemala, where she worked on the Political Military Project and Agenda of Security of the Political and Security areas of the organization. She has acted as an Assistant to the Verification Program in Guatemala that ensured the fulfillment of agreements made in relation to Guatemalan repatriated populations, and advised the Verification Program on Women’s Rights at Procuraduría de los Derechos Humanos ( the Ombudsman Institution in Guatemala). Ana Glenda has also served as Cultural and Tourism Attaché of the Guatemalan Embassy in Spain.
In the past, Ana Glenda also assumed the role of Professor of Political Sociology at the Political Science Department of Rafael Landivar University, Sociology at the Sociology Department of del Valle University. She specializes in security and defense issues, and has published several articles on Security, Intelligence and Terrorism. She graduated from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain, and has pursued studies in Political Science at Rafael Landivar University, Guatemala.
